my Process

Importing and CUlling

I use Adobe Lightroom Classic for the cataloging and discovery of all images. I first upload my images from the camera to a temporary folder on my laptop. I then, import the images into a permanent folder by camera body and event. So a folder under my Nikon D500 folder might be labeled 20230707_HiltonMD_San Elijo Lagoon_CA. This lets me know the date and location of the shoot from the folder name. I apply creator, copyright, and common keywords on the import only.

Editing and Rating

I perform most of my editing in LR Classic, with some conducted in Adobe Photoshop or Topaz AI. I have other tools, but 99% is done in these three. I use the 0-2 ratings in LR to track the state of processing (number of reviews and edits). An image I decide is portfolio worthy will receive a rating of 5, and a rating of 4 is assigned to non-portfolio images I am willing to share. A rating of 3 is used for all other keepers. I try to discard any images not worthy of sharing.

Cataloging and Sharing

For all retained images, I judiciously assign keywords, not only for discovery, but to create smart collections for grouping images for projects, website, social media, etc. I use publishing services to upload images to Pixieset (webhosting platform), and hard drive folders for pulling via Metricool when planning social media posts (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter).
